heater problems

Postby Duke Peterson on Sun Aug 17, 2008 4:41 pm

Hello all

my heater doesn't work. I suspect it is just a problem with the connection at the back of the control lever as it feels sort of funny when you move it. I cant seem to work out how to get the panel that covers the levers off? Also will i have to remove the whole dash to fix the problem anyway? I would obviously rather not do this as it looks like a pain in the arse. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

is your's the earlier series with round air vents, or the later one with square ones?

my niva is a 1990, 1600 with round air vents as i said. I have felt up underneath and the back of the heater controller is connected to a rod that appears to be moving fine. Not sure what this connects to or how i get to it as this leads me to believe the problem is downstream from here. However i can only move the controller about 2 thirds of the way to the left and there is no heat produced by the heater whatsoever. Any suggestions about possible causes would be greatly appreciated as i really want to get it working but am a bit apprehensive about pulling the whole dash apart. It seems to me the movement i do have in the controller is in the on position side so maybe this lack of movement is not related to my problem. I wouldn't mind not having a full range of movement in the controller if the heater actually worked when i turn the fan on. Any ideas what could cause this?
cheers

you wont have to take the whole dash out, just the lower section the stereo fits into.....

presume you have tried to move the lever on the tap itself to make sure it hasn't seized......

there is a clip higher up on the cable which locks the cable in place,if that clip has come off,the outer cable will be moving everywhere when you go to slide heater on/off,make sure that clip is still there....
