Lower T/C ratio gearbox

Postby Chua on Sun Aug 23, 2009 10:27 pm

Not sure if theres a topic for this.
Was thinking about a lower gear ratio at the t/c.
Provides much higher torque at low range. Baxtor's website talks about one from ladasport. but i tried emailing the guy, and no resonse. Any other ideas anyone??

Yeah it is. Just wanna know if they sell it like in one already modified t/c gearbox or do they sell it like in gears & parts and we have to modify it ourselves.

There's a Swedish version of the 'French mod' crawler thread going on at where they're discussing the options of sending out units in various stages: http://www.lada.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9061

Funny how with the niva, you never run out of projects. Havent finish the current one and already thinking of the next one.
Anyway, I am in discussion with ahma from the Lada UK forum, and probably am looking at option B or C from below. If anyone else is interested, might be cheaper to ship them altogether. Not sure how much it weighs or cost yet. Still getting the prices from ahma. The new low range gear ratio after this will be a 3:1 as compared to 2.135:1 stock. This is the biggest ratio that you can go, any further you will shave too much off the differential for anyone's liking. Personally I think 3:1 should be a safe upgrade without putting too much stress on the axles components. Besides you dont want to lose too much of the momentum that nivas provide, particularly when you want to get out of that ditch (am i right to say that?)

Micke, who is the designer, constructor and producer, can send kits with various content. From just the modified layshaft to a completet TC-case with modiied differential and housing. But, for the time being there is a problem with supplies.

I can ask him about building layshafts from new stuff, but the indicated price will of course not be the same.

Kit A: just the modified layshaft

Kit B: A + 3rd gear wheel and a gasket kit.

Kit C: A+B + modified differential (to allow the larger wheel on layshaft)

Kit D: A+B+C + modified TC-case housing (to allow the larger wheel on layshaft)

Complete Transfer Case, with ABCD and new bearings and seal.

Plus-menu: The non-play rear output shaft!

I can pass on any requests sent by PM to me, and if you can supply crownwheels or 3rd gear wheels it will be considered in the tender/offer you will get from Micke.
