Needing new tyres

Postby danno83 on Thu Sep 11, 2008 2:48 pm

I'm looking into getting some new tyres for the cheeze cutters, have been trying to find something with a similar pattern to the originals. does anyone know of somewhere i can find some?

I've also stumbled onto this website which has a stack of vintage truck and military tyres.... which would do well of these do you know?

thanks
Dan.

Those tyres are all cross-ply, & I'd guess you'd want radials for better wear, handling, and economy.

I have 205R16 on the PC, fit straight onto the stock rims (16x5) They do however rub a little in some places, and the spare won't go under the bonnet.

yeah, I'm aware they were all cross ply, te difference is, I've got 2 sets of rims, and I'm going to look at having the cheeze cutters as off-roaders only, and have the other set as the daily drivers.

Ahh OK

If you have stock height suspension, the bar treads in 6.00 x 16.

If you have some lift, then 6.50 x 16 "STA Traxion" (F) or the bar treads (A) in 7.00 x 16

Not sure what their prices are like, but as they target themselves to the "Antique" market, they'd probably be a bit pricey.

You could probably get 205R16 "Road Grippers" or "Super Grippers" from your local tyre bloke much cheaper, and you'd have a better tyre as well.

Nice, well atm I don't have any lift, well the back sits slightly higher than the front, I'm not sure why, but I don't think It's lifted, so do you think I'd be looking at the 6.00 x16's would that be correct?

would the 7.5x16's fit or are they too big to fit, and need body/suspension modifications....

Just trying to work out what I can do...

7.50s will need lift to fit.
They are about 32" diameter.

6.00 should go in without too much hassle, they're about the same width as the stockies, and maybe an inch taller. You may get a touch or two, but otherwise OK IMHO.

Found the possible tyre I'm after but still deciding which tread to go for, Thinking A, C or F. Any thoughts on which would be best? Got quotes of about $145 for tyre A, $200 for tyre C. I'm leaning more towards the more expensive one, but I'm open to suggestion....

depends on what sort of terrain ya gunna play in. I'd go A in preference to C in Mud, and vice versa for sand.
F looks like it could use a touch up with a groover and it'd make a pretty good muddy.

Hi Danno or anyone else keen Here's the low down.

Original Russian Off-roadies. Old school ones with the big lugs in side sort of like what you posted. $150 each brand new in stock on a original rim. 4 of em sitting there. He'd do me the deal on the 4 he's got and then can order more tires by themselves.

I can get my hands on the Original russian tires for around $120 a tire, from the Lada place. Problem is I'm in Perth, But People do get tires shipped interstate so may work out not to bad. Andy might be able to get the originals also??

PM or Post if anyones keen I can ask the Lada boys If they can get sent directly interstate.
