Vehicle Defect notice - Grrr

Postby John Kennedy on Thu Aug 20, 2009 2:30 pm

Got pulled up at a booze bus on Friday night in the Niva, no problem with the breath test but just as I was driving off got stopped again. So they had a look at my car and said I had water and oil leaks which I don't but it is hard to argue once they've made up their mind to give you a defect notice.

I sprayed a bit of degreaser around and cleaned up the transfer case and took the car for inspection today ($85). It came back with a list of things wrong but no oil leak. So I am at least $85 + $59 for re-inspection out of pocket for an imaginary oil leak.

I know we are lucky in a way in WA with no annual inspections but I hate the way I can be effectively fined and given a load of hassle with inspections on the whim of a police officer who clearly has no mechanical aptitude whatsoever.

Anyway, list is as follows, mostly minor I think but any advice welcomed.

Reverse lights not working
Steering doesn't self centre
play in front wheels
Rectify soft brake pedal

Thanks for reading, just wanted to vent my spleen a bit...

sounds like those crooked nsw highway patrol clowns.......

if guages working, reverse light problem wont be fuse, check wire is still on,otherwise new switch (reverse switch month this month)

didn't know steering self centred on these......
if you have suzuki rims, wont help with wrong offsets, check steerbox fill of grease

check wheel brg adjust/ball joints etc.

brake pedal, adjust rear brakes, make sure h/brake lever comes up no more than 3 clicks....

easy as...

have fun

Just reading it makes me pissed.
Really disappointed. They just wanna find some excuse to penalise you.
If they tell me this, I would take out my cardboard at the back of my car, put in under the vehicle, and say lets wait for the drip.

Andy, thanks for the advice, will likely be giving you a call on Monday. :)

Chua, you're right thats what I should have said. Thing is, I have found in the past that it doesn't pay to argue, it just makes them mad and they look for other things to cause you hassle.

Not really a big deal for me but if I was self employed and had to take time off to go to the testing centre I would be really p*ssed off.

Hello Friend
Yes you got stung by the corporate entity known as WESTERN AUTRALIA POLICE SERVICE. An ASIC search might show up an ACN. But if you dont, dont be surprised as they hide them well as a non registered corporate government entity. They are probably also listed on the U.S corporate register as with COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA. Any case the point Im making here is that we do not have a Police Service in AUtralia today which has a public service roll exclusively any more. THe Common Law is being stomped on by Statutes. The signs of the times are such that government bodies are not the peoples servants, they are enitities in commerce. Therefore you have become a porn as with many unaware Australians, to a commercial demand. Habeus Corpus states black and white, fines and forfetures are unlawful. Unless Ozy motorists start to get together lets say in a similar spirit as like the ANZACS, we will remain divided and conquered by this national regime of bandits. Go and do a search on aussiespeedingfines, join and learn. Oh by the way, go fix that oil leak.....lol just kidding!

So I finally got the yellow sticker removed yesterday, I've had a few other things keeping me busy as well. No real problems, the testing inspectors are just doing their job. I ended up replacing some of the steering ball joints and the front wheel bearings while I was at it so a bit laborious. Anyway, the main thing is I can get out in the bush again. Might go up to Lancelin for a play in the dunes this weekend.

When are we having a West Aussie meet up? I saw a lovely green Niva in Welshpool yesterday, it looked almost brand new, anyones on here?
