Transmission oils.

Postby Chua on Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:25 am

Just finished with the transmission oil change using Castrol Multitrax. Never thought that just by changing the transmission oil, you can feel such a huge difference in drivability. Was running a whole lot smoother, acceleration was better and no more vibration at 85-90km/h using 5th gear. Before that the vibration was very bad at that speed, but goes down after 100km/h. Not sure if it due to the oil change or is it just because the previous owner did not overfill the gearbox, or maybe both.

I tried multitrax in the gearbox of my manual XR8 instead of ATF like it is supposed to have, it was a disaster, you couldnt get it in to any gear until the oil temp was up, so double clutching was needed till then.
We flicked it and opted for syntrax and wow! beautiful heaps heaps heaps better than the recommened ATF.
Completly different gearboxs though
My 10 cents Chua

Castrol recommends atf for the xr8. But the multitrax (so far) worked beautifully in the niva. Very smooth engagement on all gears. I will give any updates if it turns out bad.
