SO I found this lump of steel lying around the back of the shed.

Of course I ran out of gas halfway through the cut, but ...

Any Ideas?

Well you better keep us informed on the Aussie rigid axle conversion.
To the optomist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the Engineer, the glass is twice the size it has to be.

 at a bit of a loss right now. :?

I have a set of patrol diffs suitable for a rigid axle convert.

I have a 720 Datto front diff.

:( don't know what to do ... ...

For now, (coz the comps only 6 weeks away and we all know how quickly that time can go) I'm just doing a tacky lift with some 40mm angle. After the comp, I'll decide whether the Gremlin will remain IFS or recieve a rigid conversion.

The end plates will be used on a completely fabbed X member for either a steel niva diff, or the 720 diff, which will then find it's way onto either the Gremlin or the Parts Car.
Only issue with the 720 diff is ratios. I think it's about 4.85 (??) So it'd need t have a matching rear, which means a Patrol diff with the 720 gears fitted (if that's possible), as the 720 rear end is just too short.
If that won't work, then it'll have to be a ford 9inch on back, with the Lada front hubs adapted to fit the 720 diff.
Confused??

:?

I know I am ... ...

Very nice,

Happy to see that the Gremlin is still going strong. it's impressive to see it sit beside the standard. Big differences, Looks great though :)

How close does a 720 frt. diff end up? Just wrestling with the idea of something similar, otherwise some of my better plans might get put on the backburner. Some Commodore sumps are alloy, and might have to toy with a sump/ diff combined. :?

720 diff is looking so good that hitting it with a tape measure is on my list of things to do next week.
Would need to cut & shut drive shafts, and make adapters for the ball joints.
It wont work real well with a Lada T/C, but a 720 T/C will work. Issue is the rear end. 720 rear is too narrow, MQ patrol might be ok. GQ patrol diff should be good.
