just wondering if anyone has tried to modify the drivers seat so it will move back a little further, i don't know if anyone else has this problem but i find it very uncomfortable to operate the peddles with the seat back as far as it will go and feel like this problem would be solved by moving the seat back a little

You can remove the pivot pins, (and replace them with bolts) and swap the seat mounts around so they're on backwards. this gives another 4" of legroom.
You also need to make up new mounting points for the catch.

how easy is it to swap the series 1 seats with the series 2, much more comfortable ones?

I've got the standard early model niva seats currently in and finding they are getting a little worse for wear, and found a donor car a few months back, currently now sitting in my back yard. this donor car has the newer 1997 seats in it. but it's mounted to the floor at both the front and back (it doesn't lift up) is it possible to swap these round, and put the new seats on the old runners, or do I need to weld some rear mounts in, and just bolt the '97 seats in....

not a 2 minute job dan.

they will fit in,but you have to manufacture new mounts etc.,sit totally different.

fyi. the 1.7 isn't the series 2,that was the 93-94 1600 (the call the jabiru/alpine etc.) with all the extra bolt ons.

jabiru was set up for outback,weathershields,roofrack,headlight protectors,bullbar + + + + + +

alpine had the ski racks + + + + +

they all had their own body stripe & niva series 2 badges

I have slept in 2 nivas now, a 1988 and a 1989. Not the most comfortable, but it sure beat the heck out of being chewed by the monster mozzies!
